Betty Jean C. Stegner, age 87, of Frederick, MD passed away on March 11, 2015 with family members at her side. Betty was born in Burna, Kentucky in 1927 to Franklin and Lucy Curry.  Her childhood was spent in Detroit, Michigan. Betty attended Northern High School in Detroit achieving high academic honors. Upon graduation, she worked for the Detroit Board of Education, Department of Special Education as the administrative assistant to the director. In 1947 she met her husband Girard “Bud” Stegner at a Greek picnic. They were married on April 3, 1948.
Betty was an avid reader of history and literature. Throughout her years in Detroit she spent many hours enjoying these interests at the Detroit Institute of Arts and main branch of the Detroit Public Library. In 1984, Betty and Bud moved to Maryland from Dearborn, MI. Mrs. Stegner became active in the Frederick Maryland chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as well as the Colonial Dames. She was a member of the Crestwood Village Red Hat Society.  She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and also attended services at Evangelical Lutheran Church both in Frederick, MD.  An exceptional personality, she will be missed.
Betty is survived by her husband, Girard “Bud” F. Stegner of Frederick, MD, her children, James Stegner and Joyce Hennessee of Romeo, MI, Susan and Robert Payne of Frederick, MD, Robin and Scott Miner of Damascus, MD and her grandchildren Jim and Caitlin Payne of Frederick, MD, Jennifer Payne of Woodstock, VA, Katie Miner and Walter Ratcliff of Columbia, MD, and Megan Miner of Damascus, MD.
On March 28, 2015 from 1-3 p.m., the family will be holding a Celebration of Life in the garden room at the Frederick Elks Lodge #684, 289 Willowdale Drive, Frederick, MD.  Memorials in Betty’s name are requested for her favorite philanthropic organizations: Detroit Institute of Arts, http://www.dia.org/support/annual-giving-73.aspx; Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation, http://www.dplfriendsfoundation.org; or the local Frederick chapter of the DAR, email DAR@gmail.com Attn: Chapter Treasurer Dawn Robinson.
