Betty Spielman

Betty Eyler Spielman, 89, passed peacefully on Monday, February 20 at Country Meadows of Frederick.  Born on May 16, 1927 in Union Bridge, MD, she was the daughter of Herman and Olive Weatherly Eyler. She was married to Frederick W. Spielman, Jr. for 59 years who predeceased her in 2010.
A member of the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, Betty attended Liberty High School and graduated in 1944.  She trained as a registered nurse at Frederick City Hospital, graduating in 1947.  Early in her nursing career, she worked in the pediatric ward at Frederick Memorial and in the office of local surgeon Dr. John Culler.  In later years, she worked at the office of doctors Murphy, Hall, Cromwell, Shumaker and Dunford in Rockville,Md.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her two daughters Deborah Richards (Charles) and Rebecca McKinnon (Ray), and grandsons Christopher Richards (Elizabeth), Matthew Richards (Kristen) and Douglas McKinnon (Lisa Nicholson, fiancée) and great grandchildren Jonah and Ryan Richards and Hailey and Tyler Pleasants. She was predeceased by sister Jeanette Cartzendafner and brother Herman Eyler.
Betty's pride and joy was her family.  As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was happiest when spending time with her family, reading and working on word searches. The family will always treasure fond memories of their yearly beach vacations together on the Eastern Shore.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD 21793.  A service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Country Meadows for the care and compassion shown to Betty during her time in residence there.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Frederick County, Kline Hospice House, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
