Betty Lorraine Sheffler, 87, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Born August 7, 1929 in Wolfsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Donna Kline. Betty was an Instructional Assistant for many years at Rock Creek School, retiring in 1991.
In her early years, Betty was involved in the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ Sunday school and church Bible School programs. She was instrumental in the development of the Band Boosters and Sports Boosters at Middletown High School. Betty, along with her husband Bob, was involved in the start-up of Middletown Valley Athletic Association.
In the more recent years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her close friends, spending time with her ever-growing family and hosting family dinners and holiday get together's. Betty’s door was always open for family and friends to enjoy her excellent cooking, a swim in the pool and to create life-long memories. Family was very important to Betty and she will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob), her sister Thelma Grace Gildersleeve and her brother Gale Kline and his wife Pat. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Robert and Sue Sheffler, Brian and Roxanne Sheffler, and Mark and Carol Sheffler; eight grandchildren Patricia Chancellor, Brian Sheffler II, Katie Bittle, Krista Crews, Christine Ward, Meagan Sheffler, Ashley Sheffler and Rebecca Sheffler; and 10 great grandchildren.
There will be a private grave-side service held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Middletown, MD. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Middletown Valley Athletic Association, 31 W. Main St., #2A, Middletown, Md. 21769 or to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, P.O.
