Betty Jane Weddle Martinez, 76, of Emmitsburg, passed away with her family by her side, Monday, February 7, 2011 at her home. Born on February 12, 1934, in Frederick as the daughter of the late Jesse Weddle and Laura Rhoderick Weddle. She was the wife of the late Jose Daniel Martinez, who predeceased her in 1985.
With her outgoing spirit and loving nature, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother of three, Frederic Martinez of Germantown, Larry Martinez and wife Patti of Woodsboro and Laura Knott and husband Dean of Thurmont and grandmother of four, Ben Martinez, Hanna Martinez, Kyle Knott and Kayla Knott.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Betty is survived by one sister, Evelyn Brown and husband Philetus of New Windsor. Betty and Evelyn spent many weekends togehter and were the closest of friends. She is also survived by many close nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four siblings, Jesse Weddle, Jr., Woodrow Weddle, Virginia Tucker and Louise Godwin.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Thursday, February 10, from 1-3PM and 5-7PM with funeral services beginning at 7PM. The Rev. Les Sims will officiate.
Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
