Betty Lou Lockard, 89, of Middletown, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, February 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Charles William "Buck" Lockard, Sr., who died on May 5, 2019. They were married nearly 65 years at the time of his passing.
Born on December 18, 1935, in Howard County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Sydnor Claude Gordon and Avery Eugenia (Bush) Gordon. Betty was the last of her immediate family and was predeceased by her 9 siblings.
Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who always had a listening ear available, a hand ready to hold, and a smile that would light up a room. She had a tenacious, fighting spirit and never gave up, even during her last several months.
Betty attended as many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events and was often the leader of the family cheering section.
She previously worked as a cashier at Giant and A&P (for over 40 years), where she met many acquaintances along the way.
Survived by three children, Charles W. "Bill" Lockard, Jr. of Frederick; Patti Humphreys of Middletown; and Kelly Lockard Toms and husband, Tony, of Thurmont; four grandchildren, Bryon Lockard and wife Clarica, Carrie Strobel, MaryAvery Feigley and husband Kenny, and Shelby Jo Toms and fiancé Major Rogers IV; and five great-grandchildren, Colin Lane Lockard, Tyler James Strobel, Landen Michael Strobel, Cooper Charles Lockard, and Avery Lurine Feigley; many special nieces, nephews and extended family members, her four legged companion "Nyla," and many lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
A celebration of Betty's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from the funeral home chapel with the family receiving friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Rev. Tim May will officiate services.
Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
