Betty Krom

September 19, 1924 — March 27, 2017

Mrs. Betty J. Krom, 92, of Frederick died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Guy Krom, who predeceased her in 1983.

Born September 19, 1924 in Rocky Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Kathryn (Ogle) Valentine.

After several years of farming with her husband in the Emmitsburg area, Betty later worked for American Optical for 18 years.

She enjoyed reading the bible, crossword puzzles, solitaire, playing cards, being outside and having family picnics and gatherings.

She treasured her many visits with her cousin, Frannie Cecil, and good friend, Ginny Sulcer.

Betty was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Woodsboro Senior Citizens, Emmitsburg American Legion, Emmitsburg VFW and Gold Star Mothers.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Barbara Krom; granddaughter, Michelle Long; great-grandchildren, Susannah Krom, Nathaniel Krom, and Remington Long; several nieces and nephews, including devoted nieces, Linda Shields, Kathy Sixx and Bonnie Sanders and their families; and a sister-in-law, Connie Valentine.

She was predeceased by sons, Ronald and Kenneth Krom; grandson, Steven Krom; brothers, Melvin and Rodney Valentine; and a sister, Emily Sixx.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 10043 Long's Mill Road, Rocky Ridge, where a memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. James Russell.

Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, and mailed to Lois Late, 507 Gateway Drive West, Thurmont, MD 21788.
