Betty Mae Ireland, age 94, was born in Baltimore, raised in Highlandtown, passed away Tuesday evening, April 2, 2025, at Northwest Hospice and Palliative Care in Randallstown. She was born the daughter of Frederich and Catherine Stange on March 7, 1931.
Betty was preceded in death by the loves of her life, husband Joseph Dasch, of 28 amazing years and beloved Brother Michael Stange. Also preceding her in death is Linwood Ireland.
Betty was a longtime member of Perry Hall United Methodist Church. She worked as an Office Manager/Bookkeeper of a large construction company while maintaining the family home. She loved to cook relished her time creating in the kitchen, and singing in the Dundalk Sweet Adelines Chorus. Betty loved spending time with family and friends, her weekly card games, and traveling.
Betty was fortunate enough to twice make her dream trip to the Hawaiian Islands. While there with her family, she visited the “Garden Isle” of Maui and sampled a variety of different cuisines and saw many sights unique to the island. Without a doubt, it was wonderful but Ocean City was her favorite vacation spot. Her annual trips, spending a week with “just the girls” was something she looked forward to all year.
Betty’s favorite love was music and singing. The radio was always on, and her home was always filled with a variety of musical styles spanning the decades. She particularly enjoyed listening to Barbershop Harmony, including past performances of her beloved Dundalk Sweet Adelines. This often turned to impromptu live performances anytime 4 or more Barbershoppers came together, and she was always at the ready to jump in and sing Lead. It was this love of music that garnered her special recognition with a “60 Year Certificate of Membership” from the International Chorus.
When not singing, Betty could be found volunteering with the Red Cross, and The Salvation Army of the Greater Women’s Auxiliary where she was recognized twice with the “Governor’s Volunteer Certificate”, 2008 and 2010. Betty was a helper to her core. She would help anyone in any way she could, something for your bake sale, a button on your shirt, she was there to help. She touched innumerable lives through her years of tireless volunteer work, big and small.
Betty is survived by 2 lovely daughters, Michele Smith (h. Alan) and Denise Bennett (h. Jimmie); 3 granddaughters, Megan Barrett (h. Jay), Elizabeth McWilliams (h. Jeffery) and Jennifer Schneider (h. John); and 6 great grandchildren, Robert Larrimore V, Caroline Barrett, Wade Barrett, Aiden McWilliams, Miles McWilliams and Bennett Schneider.
Betty was cherished by many friends, who will miss her dearly.
