Betty Hoch

Betty Lou (Starliper) Hoch, 81, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on May 23, 1930, in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late George E. and Sarah M. (Atherton) Starliper.  Her husband, Thomas D. Hoch preceded her in death on May 20, 2008.

She attended the Mercersburg Schools in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

Betty was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro. She was also a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 Ladies Auxiliary in Boonsboro.

Betty was a homemaker all of her life. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo and reading.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan and her husband, Gary Petefish of Boonsboro; two grandchildren, Nicole Petefish of Hagerstown and Bradley Petefish of Boonsboro; one sister, Esther Oyler of Florida; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Vermillion.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Buterbaugh and Violet Beaver; and one brother, George F. Starliper.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  The Rev. Dr. Ray Roberson will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Friends may visit beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the funeral home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
