Mrs. Betty Sue Hawkins, 76 of Mt. Airy died on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy. She was the wife of the late George Douglas Hawkins who died on January 12. 2000.
Born on December 20, 1943, in Rose Hill, Lee County Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Carl Sumpter Marcum & Opal Barnes Marcum.
Betty married George on June 20, 1962. Her work experiences included a dietitian at Carroll County Hospital, a secretary, child care provider and card punch reader for HP; as well as a being a farmer and homemaker.
She enjoyed to cook, tending her flower garden, collecting dolls especially Holiday Barbies and crocheting afgans. Betty loved hummingbirds.
Surviving are three children: Luca (Lisa) Hawkins and partner Vanessa Dickinson of Hagerstown, Christopher Hawkins and partner Stacey Darby of Stockbridge, GA and Jason Hawkins and wife Traci of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren: Cayden Jay Hawkins, United States Air Force of Hagerstown, Hailey Elizabeth Hawkins and Jacob Glendon Hawkins both of Mt. Airy; siblings: Linda Williams and husband Jimmy of Jonesville, VA and Dianne Holland and her husband Bruce of St. Petersburg, FL, sisters in laws Pearl Payne of Gaithersburg, Shelby Hawkins of Monrovia and Patricia Marcum. She was preceded in death by siblings: William Marcum, Wendell Marcum who passed as an infant, Ken Marcum, and brother in law Tommy Hawkins.
Services and interment will be private.
