Betty Georgette Ifert

Betty Georgette Stull Ifert, 96, of Mount Airy, Maryland passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at Lorien Life Care Center, Mount Airy. She was born in Poplar Springs, Maryland to parents George W. and Eleanor Gillis Stull on February 23, 1929.

After graduating from Lisbon High School class of 1946, Mrs. Ifert began her career as a part-time postal clerk as well as a part-time Town Clerk in Mount Airy. In 1950, she began working full-time for the town of Mount Airy, and retired in 2003 after fifty-three years as Town Clerk. For her first twenty-three years she was the only regular employee of the Town, worked alone in the town office, and was given much credit for saving, as well as earning money for the town through her work managing the town's escrow accounts. 

She was a long-time member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Mount Airy; a member of the Mount Airy Historical Society, having been inducted in the Historical Hall of Fame in 2001. She volunteered for twenty years at the Lorien Life Care Center and was the recipient of Mount Airy Volunteer of the Year in 1997, having volunteered for many town functions.

Betty is survived by her step-son Jonathan Ifert, Jr., and wife, Donna; step-daughter-in-law Anna Ifert; as well as step-grandchildren, step-great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-two years, Jonathan L. Ifert; step-son Norman Daniel Ifert; sisters Rose Marie Reed and Martha Henley. 

A graveside service for Mrs. Ifert will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. for family and friend's at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy. 

Betty was very thankful for the many neighbors and friends that helped her navigate through life in her later years; she felt blessed by each of you.
