Betty Jane Fleming

Betty Jane Fleming , , of Monrovia, Maryland, passed from this life with family by her side on January 22, 2023,  at the home of her son Joseph in Star Tannery, VA. 

Born on August 28, 1929, in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of late Anna Doris (Leakins) and Oliver Monroe Hoffman and the wife of the late Walter J. Fleming with whom she was married 65 years at the time of his passing in 2013.

She worked at the Frederick County School Board retiring after 30 years. Betty was a lifelong member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, where she enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church and would always lend a helping hand in the kitchen preparing meals for church functions.  She loved bingo and looked forward to trips with her friends.

She is survived by her sons  Joseph Monroe Fleming (Leona), Thomas Walter Fleming (Alice) and  David Wayne Fleming (Deborah); grandchildren, Michelle M. Fleming Lamp (Michael Lamp), Jennifer J. Nichols (Chad), Joseph W. Fleming, Alysha D. Lilly (Mason), Alina K. Potts (Ori), Stephanie E. Potts,  Kelley A. Flesher (Travis) and Howard A. Zimmerman, Jr.; great-grandchildren Michael Burkett, Bailey Nichols, Karleigh Nichols, Sawyer Nichols, Judah Potts, Madison Rayne Flesher, Jeweleya Anne Vann and Hadlee Brooke Zimmerman; brother, Oliver F. Hoffman and her dear friends, Mona and David Crawford, Carol Cornell, Dottie Kessel and Lou Gloyd.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Kathleen Rew, Ethel Daughtery and Sally Grimes.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, Md 21771 on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
 
Funeral Services will be held at The Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 A  Green Valley Road in Monrovia, MD, on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 am where friends will also be received from 10 am until the time of service. Pastor Dawn Weller will officiate.  

After the service, Betty will be laid to rest with her husband in Bush Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Bush Creek Church of the Brethren.
