Betty Jean Cooper Miller, 87, of Silver Spring, MD, the loving wife of the late Carlton H. Miller for 49 years, passed away peacefully at Glade Valley Nursing Home on Sunday, November 29, 2015.
Betty grew up in Washington, DC and was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School and received her college degree in health and physical education from The University of Maryland. She was a life-long Terrapin fan and attended MD Terrapin football games until last year. She and her husband shared a life-long love of jazz music. They were members of the Potomac River Jazz Club for over 30 years.
Betty was a Montgomery County Public Schools physical education teacher before starting her family. She continued as a substitute teacher in Montgomery County for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Miller of Walkersville, MD, her son Dale Miller and his wife Eileen of Damascus, MD, and her daughter June Miller and spouse, Catherine of Frederick, MD. Betty is also survived by her seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Edenton Assisted Living in Frederick, MD for the compassionate care Betty received in the final months of her life.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at 11:00 am at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. The celebrant will be Reverend Earl Mullins. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
