Mrs. Betty Sawyers Burdette, 80, of Hyattstown, MD and Zephyrhills, FL died on Sunday April 22, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Norman G. Burdette and former husbands Perry G. Burdette and Irvin L. Long also preceded her in death.
Born on April 23, 1931 in Greenbrier, WV. She was the daughter of the late Edwin Kyle and Edith Katherine Sawyers of Greenbrier, WV.
She was a loving mother and grandmother ‘Meme’ who enjoyed spending time with all of her family and traveling to her Florida home.
She was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church; served as worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) #95 Mt. Airy Chapter; owned and operated DarLon beauty salon in Damascus for 30 years; and served the Damascus community for over 20 years in real estate with her late husband Perry.
She is survived by son Sumner Darron Long of Damascus, MD, and step-sons Donald Burdette and Jeanette of Hyattstown, MD, and Thomas Burdette and Wendy of Clifton, VA. Grandchildren Kimberly L. Paylor and Robert of Ft. Myers, FL, Karen Turner of Damascus, MD, and Katie Long of Damascus, MD. Step-Grandchildren, Kim Burdette of Frederick, Chris Burdette of Frederick and Allie Burdette of Colorado. Great grandchildren - Lauren Paylor Ft Myers FL, Kendra Turner, Damascus MD. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Sue Graf of Hampstead MD, brothers Kyle David Sawyers and Robert Lee Fry both of NC.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 25, 2012 from 3-5 & 7-9pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, P. A. 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, MD. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am on Thursday April 26, 2012 at the Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus, MD. 20872. Interment will follow in Damascus United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to Damascus United Methodist Church at the above address or to the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, 26334 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD, 20872.
