Betty Ashbaugh

Betty Jane (Cooper) Ashbaugh, 89, of Boonsboro, Maryland passed from this life on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Diakon Senior Living Ravenwood Campus in Hagerstown.

Born on September 20, 1929 in Worleytown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Hartman and Charlotte (Dorty) Cooper.  Her husband, George E. Ashbaugh, Jr., preceded her in death in 1996.

Betty worked food service at various places, such as St. James Boys School, the Valley Restaurant, Montgomery Wards in Hagerstown, the Potomac Diner. She retired from Ravenwood Lutheran Village where she most recently attended chapel services for nearly six years.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Shoemaker and husband Mark of Hagerstown; two sons, George. E. Ashbaugh, III and wife Ann and Daniel L. Ashbaugh and wife Deborah, all of Boonsboro; and one brother, Daniel Cooper of Sevierville, Tennessee.  She is also survived by three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Gray, Thelma Wheeler, Ruth Davis, and Joyce Cooper; and two brothers,Willard and Richard Cooper.

The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the funeral home in Boonsboro with Rev. Tim May officiating. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery at Lappans.
