Mrs. Betty L. Allen, 82, of Hagerstown died peacefully Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab in Walkersville. She was the loving wife of the late Paul Eugene Allen, who died in 1991.
Born July 15, 1931 in Appalachia, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lula Miles.
Betty was a homemaker, having raised six children. Once her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling to many places across the U.S. According to her kids, she was "always on the road." It was not uncommon for Betty to wake up on a Sunday morning and say "where do I want to go today?" She would then hop on a charter bus and see where it would go.
She lived in Florida for a few years before moving back to Maryland and spending time with her adult children and their families. She was an avid collector of dolls. More recently, she became very fond of her favorite stuffed animal, a bunny she affectionately named Henry.
Betty is survived by her children, Naomi Allen of Hagerstown, Thelma Allen of Adamstown, Paul Allen of Hagerstown, Virginia Davis of Florida, and Deborah Gene Mize of Virginia; eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Anderkin who died suddenly of a brain aneurysm 35 years ago.
A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD, with Jacqui Kreh as celebrant.
