Mrs. Bette Hutchens Coursey, 81 of Frederick, MD., died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Homewood of Crumland Farms. She was the wife of John D. Coursey.

Born September 30, 1927 in North Wilkesboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Paul D. and Grace Waugh Hutchens.

Mrs. Coursey attended Virginia Intermont College. During her 54 year marriage, she raised 6 children as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. After family, her widely held interests included Early Americana, music, painting, flower gardening, nature and bird watching. She enjoyed vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and spending time at the family cabin in Western Maryland.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children David H. Coursey and wife Leslie of Wethersfield, CT, Kathryn Coursey of Gaithersburg, MD, Paul D. Coursey and Mary McAllen of Baltimore, MD, Bette Betsy W. Coursey of Thurmont, MD, Edward E. Coursey and wife Diana Alho of Silver Spring, MD and Billie J. Coursey of Mt. Airy, MD, grandchildren Kimberly Coursey Luis and husband Gary, James D. Coursey and wife Teresa, Shannon Coursey Ciccaglione and husband Dennis, Kathryn Grace Katie Coursey & fiance, John Giganti, James A. Coursey, John E. Coursey, David P. Coursey, Patrick E. Coursey, Mary Kathleen Molly Coursey, Ty C. Griffith and Lydia Grace Griffith. Great-grandchildren Casey Luiz, Mackenzie Luiz, Emily Coursey and Logan Coursey, special friends Eleanor Hall and George Griffith.

She was preceded in death by a son John D. Coursey, Jr.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD on Friday, November 14, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 15, at 11 :00 a.m.
Intement Pipe's Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Lung Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
