Mr. Bernard N. Snapper Denell, 83 of Frederick died Saturday evening, October 20th at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Noree Denell, who died in 1985.
Born in Washington, DC, on August 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Edna Nelson Dunnington and William Theodore (Tom) Denell.
Snapper served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and also during the Korean War in Japan. He returned to the Chevy Chase area where he was a fireman and served as Fire Chief of the Chevy Chase Fire Department retiring after 36 years of service.
Survivors include his two daughters; Sandy L. Carter and husband George of Rockville, and Judy L. Benton and husband Keith of Auburn, GA; three grandchildren, T. Mark Carter and wife Bernice, Tina M. Carter and Thomas G. Benton; a great granddaughter, Emily L. Carter; two brothers, William Thomas {Tommy} Denell of Glen Echo, and Robert E. {Bobby} Denell and wife Gina of Punta Gorda, FL. He will also be remembered by his loving companion, Sylvia A. Johnson and her family, Brenda, Jennifer, and Suzanne Propheter, Sara, Danny, Jonas and Sylvia Tresselt and Larry Johnson.
Snapper was also preceded in death by three sisters; Louise Wells, Marge Wilson and Frances Beach; and a sister-in-law Naomi Denell.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD.
Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 24th at 11:00 AM with Pastor David G. Oravec officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Rockville, MD
