Bernard "Bernie" Glenn Palmer, 81, of Middletown, Maryland, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016, at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, Maryland.
Born on February 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Glenn Carlton and Geneva Irene (Shank) Palmer.
He was a graduate of Middletown High School in 1953.
Bernard was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was a self-employed master carpenter, retiring from his business, BG Palmer Contractor, Inc., in 1997.
Bernard was a member of the Frederick County Home Builders Association and had previously served on the Board of Directors for Grangers Mutual Insurance Company. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gloria "Jeanne" (Scott) Palmer; three daughters, Lora R. Coe and husband Jeffrey of New Market, Maryland, Marcia J. Palmer and fiancé Paul Walton of Woodstock, Maryland, and Gina E. Fields and husband Mark of Kennesaw, Georgia; two step children, Timothy S. Hedges and wife Tammy of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Cheryl A. Resor and husband Bob of Hawaii; one sister, Ethel Rothenhoefer and husband Frank of Frederick, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Ryan, Miranda, Palmer, Kate, Will, and Doris; and one great grandson, James. He will also be missed by his special friends, Jim and Paula Ross.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. (Leatherman) Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, Maryland. Rev. Kathy Vitalis-Hoffman will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
