Bernard "Bernie" Moser

August 19, 1940 — April 5, 2008

Bernard L. "Bernie" Moser, age 67, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Washington County Hospital after a two month battle with lung cancer.


A lifelong resident of Boonsboro, Bernard was born Aug. 19, 1940, on the Ford family farm. He was a son of the late Herman K. and Isabel N. Ford Moser.


Bernie graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1958. He attained an Engineering degree via correspondence classes. he began his professional career of 44 years with Potomac Edison in September 1958, retiring from Allegheny Power Systems as the APS service manager of the Thurmont Office in December 2002.


Known for his beautiful yard, Bernard was an avid gardener, a lifelong Democrat, a civil war historian and an active citizen who loved his country and his community. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda; touring local, national and international historical sites and following this country's politics. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.


He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro.


Bernard was a member of the Potomac Edison Quarter Century Club, PE Forerunners Club, charter member and past president of the former Boonsboro Optimist Club, member of Antietam Masonic Lodge 197 AF & AM of Keedysville, MD, member of the South County Democrat Club and an officer of the former Boonsboro Men's Democrat Club.


He served as a local Justice of the Peace, member and former chairman of the Boonsboro Municipal Utilities Commission, member of the Boonsboro Planning Commission and member and past chairman of the Board of County Commissioners' Planning and Community Development Committee of Washington County.


Bernie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda L. Harwood Moser, whom he married March 3, 1962; and two children, Michele L. Sheppard and husband Stephen of Chambersburg, PA, and Brian P. Moser and wife Leah of Vienna, VA. He was the proud grandfather of Ethan J. Sheppard, Emma A. Sheppard, Elisabeth "Libby" A.C. Sheppard and Gavin P. Moser. Bernie is also survived by one brother, Lynden Moser of Funkstown, one sister, Kay Moser of Charles Town, WV, and his mother-in-law, Esther Harwood of Hagerstown.


The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.


Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held following the services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro.
