Bernard (Bernie) Willis, 73, of Frederick, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring from injuries sustained from an accident.
Born in New Windsor Maryland, he was the son of the late Herbert Luther and Genevieve Helene Hammond Willis.
Mr. Willis graduated from Linganore High School in 1969. He served his country from 1971 until 1973, when he was honorably discharged. He was employed and retired from East Alco Aluminum after 30 years. Always keeping busy, Mr. Willis also retired from Tamko building products. He was not one to stay retired, and in 2018, he began working as a custodian at Lincoln Elementary School. Bernie enjoyed playing the lottery, playing softball and basketball. He enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed a good conversation. He was always ready to help anyone at any time.
He is survived by his daughters, Bernitta Willis and Geornese Willis, and their mother, Sheila Willis, all of Frederick; and his only grandchild, a grandson, Noah Willis. In addition to his daughters, also surviving are his sisters, Emily Willis Dorm and husband, Charles, Genevieve Willis, and Linda Singh and husband, Raj, all of Westminster; his brothers, Wayne Willis, Sr. and wife, Charlotte, of New Windsor; Harold Willis and wife, Renee, and Hammond Willis and wife, Charlotte, both of Frederick; sisters-in-law, Hazel Willis, Nancy Willis, Earlene Willis, and Tammy Willis. Also left behind are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. He will be remembered by devoted friends, Lynn Sewell, Hanford (Wolf) Thomas, Delores Whiten-Whims, Jeffrey Whiten, Wayne Whiten, Charles (Charlie) Whims, Larry Gee, Andy Sewell, Kevin Brightful, Chester Crews, Arlene Blaylock, and Greg Plummer.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Willis; and ten brothers, William T. Willis, Booker T Willis, Emory (Joe) Willis, Jerome Willis, Robert Willis, Kenneth Willis, Merritt Willis, Byron Willis, Shirley Willis, Herbert Lee Willis.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21st at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick with Rev. Harry Johnson officiating. Final resting place ceremonies, with military honors, will be conducted at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
