Mr. Bernard Murphy, 88, of Frederick, MD., passed away Friday, January 31 at the Kline Hospice House.
Bernie (Pat) was born June 7, 1925 in Walkersville, MD., the son of the late Baxter and Norma Murphy.
Bernie attended Walkersville High School, then served in the U.S. Navy in the 40th Seabee Battalion 1945-1946 in the South Pacific Theater.
He married his loving wife, Pauline Waltz in 1949. Bernie retired from the Telephone Company in 1984, giving him the opportunity to attend to his enjoyment of attending to his flower garden. He was a life long member of the Walkersville United Methodist, serving as lead usher for many years. An avid baseball fan he played in Tri-County and Frederick Leagues. He then spent time umpiring for Frederick Little League.
Bernie is survived by his wife Polly, daughters Patricia Zern and Pamela Hemus, four grandchildren Leidy Zern, Lindsay Roski, Josh Hemus and Deanna Hemus. He was preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Lloyd Murphy and sisters Stella Stoker and Catherine Snider.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home,
1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, February 4, from 2-4 and 7-9:00 pm, where services will be held Wednesday, February 5, at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Baker officiating.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
