Bernard Kroeger

Mr. Bernard Francis Kroeger, 94, of Frederick, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at Northampton Manor Nursing Home. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Kroeger, who predeceased him on May 7, 2007.

Born October 1, 1920, in Chicago, IL, he was the only child born to the late John and Jenny (Schick) Kroeger.

Mr. Kroeger was a veteran of WWII, having served in Europe and the Philippines. In his professional life he was a circulation editor of magazines and journals, working for the American Medical Association for many years. He loved visiting the family cabin on the lake in Tower, Minnesota. Just last year at the age of 93, he enjoyed a fishing trip on the lake with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Marilyn K. Smith and her husband, Dr. Richard H. Smith; three grandchildren, Jason M. Koepke and wife, Mackenzie, and their son, Crosby; Kristina Koepke; and Kari Hassett and husband, Patrick; two step-grandsons, Richard H. Smith, III and wife, Vika, and their three children, Annabelle, Rosie, and John; and Nathan Allen Smith and wife, Jill, and their daughter, Norah; and two nephews, William Hubay and his two children; and Thomas Hubay and wife, Marsha, and their two children.

He was predeceased by a nephew, Charles A. Hubay, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Interment will be on Saturday in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
