Mr. Bernard Milton Herrell, 88, of Frederick died peacefully Friday, March 28, 2014. He was the loving husband of 57 years to Betty Jane Herrell.
Born March 27, 1926 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late John and Lena Herrell.
He retired from the federal government after many years with the Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer/oceanographer. Mr. Herrell served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46. He was past commander of the VFW, member of the Federal Employee Retirement, a volunteer with the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was active in the Crestwood Village Community.
He was a wonderful caregiver to his siblings over the years, but most importantly, to his wife, Betty. Mr. Herrell enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian C. Herrell and wife, Phyllis, of Gaithersburg; step-sons, Ronald Wood and wife, Sandy, of Minnesota, and Gary Wood and wife, Jan, of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean McFall of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Raymond, Henry, Jack, Walter and George Herrell; and four sisters, Mildred McGinnis, Emma Martone, Florence Miller and Shirley Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with funeral services beginning at 4 p.m.
Interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2 at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills.
