Bernard Harrington

Bernard Richard Harrington, 96, of Newark, DE, formerly of Brunswick, MD, died on May 16, 2019 at Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was the husband of the late Catherine Bohrer Harrington who died in 2006.

Born in Brunswick on October 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas Harrington and Etta (Houser) Harrington.

After graduating from Brunswick High School in 1939, he attended Strayer Business College in Washington, DC. He served in the Army Quartermaster Corps in World War II, and worked 42 years in the Freight Traffic and Industrial Development Departments of Pennsylvania Railroad, and successors, Penn Central and Conrail before retiring in 1982 as Manager of Regional Market Development.

He has been a member of Brunswick Masonic Lodge No. 191 since 1947. He also was a member of Newark Senior Center, Newark American Legion Post 10, and a long-time volunteer at the Brunswick Railroad Museum Gift Shop. As a member of the Brunswick History Commission, he was one of the writers of its 1991 history book "Brunswick - 100 Years of Memories". He served as Elder at Christiana Presbyterian Church during an earlier Delaware residency.

He is survived by son, Timothy Harrington and wife Paula of Norman, OK; daughter, Debbie Harrington Stohr of Bear, DE; granddaughters, Marie Imotichey and Liz Madrigal; great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Tinsley, Miguel, and Max; and brother, Col. Phillip L. Harrington (USMC-Retd.) of Arlington, VA., who died on May 19, 2019.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald David Harrington in 1991, and a grandson, Brandon R. Stohr in 2018.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Tim May will officiate.

Interment will follow in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
