Benjamin {Ben} H. Black
March 28, 1939 — December 13, 2008
Mr. Benjamin (Ben) Hoffman Black, 69, of Cascade, died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, PA. He was the husband of 42 years to Norma Irene Moreland Black.
Born in Prince Georges County, MD on March 28, 1939, he was the son of the late Mary (Hoffman) and John Black.
He was a former quality assurance manager with Marsh McBirney in Gaithersburg and also in Frederick for a number of years. Ben had also worked with the Frederick County School System, but most recently he was with SAIC at Fort Detrick where he received his ten year certificate.
Ben served in the US Air Force Reserves, where he obtained an interest in airplanes and flying. He was a faithful founding member of Living Word Ministries in Blue Ridge Summit, PA. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting coins and knives. The most important aspect of his life was his family. He was devoted to his wife, his children and his grandchildren and will be greatly missed by them all. His giving heart was his greatest attribute
Besides his wife Norma, Ben is survived by his children; Cheryl Hooper and husband George of Blue Ridge Summit, Richard Black and wife Lisa from Smithsburg, Jennifer Beck and husband Eric of Fairfield, Sarah Miller and husband Jeff of Waynesboro, and Maria Black of Charleston, ME; his son-in-law, Michael Beans of Smithsburg; his loving grandchildren, Rachal, Angela, Megan, Alisha, Kristen, Joshua, Gabriel, Elijah, Joel, and Nathan; his siblings, Sarah Ann Black, John Jeremiah Black, Harry Bradfield Black, David George Black, Mary Margaret Black and William Lloyd Black.
Ben was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter Susan Irene Beans on August 28, 2008.
He will also be faithfully missed by his dog, Pooh Bear.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street Thurmont, MD.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Bible Church, 14698 Albert Staub Road, Thurmont, MD 21788 with Revs Warren Rice, Frank Turner and Virginia Saavedra officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.
