Mrs. Barbara “Jane” Kolb, 81, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, MD. She was the wife of the late William Kolb.
Born April 25, 1931 in Middletown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Emmert and Alice Brandenburg Adkins.
Mrs. Kolb was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and an active member of the “Faithfull Workers”. She was a graduate of Walkersville High School class of 1948. Jane was known as “Queen of Red Velvet Cakes”. She enjoyed cooking, flowers and was an avid bowler for the Wednesday morning league in Walkersville. She loved having Sunday dinners for family and attending family reunions.
She is survived by her children Linda Kolb and husband Joseph Rizzo of Thurmont, William G. Kolb, Jr., Gary W Kolb both of Creagerstown, Randy L. Kolb and wife Karol of Strasburg, VA and Michael E. Kolb and friend Dorothy of Sabillasville, five grandchildren Rachel, Joshua and wife Courtney, Deanna, Alice and Morgan, four great-grandchildren, sisters Mildred Shafer of Alexandria, VA, Phyllis Kolb of Frederick and Shirley Smith and husband Clayton of Jefferson and her sister-in-law Elizabeth Myers, Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her sisters Hilda Wiles, Freda Eigenbrode, Virginia McMath and Frances Grimm.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont on Monday, June 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 8619 Blacks Mill Road, Thurmont, MD, Tuesday, June 12, at 11:00 am with Rev. Gordon Narvesen and Rev. Katie Bishop officiating.
