Barbara E. Jones (BJ), 84, of Ijamsville, MD, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Somerford Place in Frederick.
She was born on November 5, 1938 in Atlanta, GA to the late Enoch Washington “Wash” Eason and Nellie Jeanette (Waddell) Eason.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Barbara attended SW DeKalb High School. She went on to higher education at Truett McConnell College, Crawford W. Long Nursing School, and Mercer University. Barbara worked at several hospitals in Atlanta as the medical record director. She went back to college and received a second bachelor's degree from Emory University. Upon graduation,
Barbara accepted a position as a professor in the Health Information Management Department at Emory University. Her last employment required a move to Maryland where she worked for FMAS and Birch & Davis Consultants evaluating patient care in military and VA hospitals.
Barbara loved sharing her time and volunteering here locally over the years with the Frederick County Women's Commission, a docent for the Frederick Historical Society, and a board member for FULAA International. Barbara studied and became a Master Gardener with the Frederick County Extension Service. She also gave her time to her church, Mountain View Community
Church, through being a table mom at MOPS, facilitator for Grief Share, on the security team, the Missions Committee, and much more.
Barbara is survived by her children, a daughter, Joyce and husband, Jodie D. Farless, Jr. (Ijamsville), a son, John L. Jones, III and wife, Chrystal (Lilburn, GA); grandchildren, Carl Farless (Frederick), Laura Hickok and husband, Matthew (Ijamsville), John L. Jones, IV (Johnny) and wife, Lizzy (St Mary's, GA), and Allison Jones (Lilburn, GA); and great-grandson, Nikolai J. Hickok.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Lewis Jones, Jr., and James David Burgoon.
BJ had vascular dementia. Her granddaughter, Laura, provided most of her care giving during the hard journey. The last four months of her life, BJ resided at Somerford of Frederick in the memory care unit due to her dementia. Her family is so grateful for the excellent care she received there by all the nurses and caregivers.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Mountain View Community Church, 8330 Fingerboard Road in Frederick with Pastor Guy Kneebone officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain View Community Church, Daybreak Adult Day Services (Frederick, MD), or the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at StaufferFuneralHome.com.
