Austin Arnold Younkins, 85, of Frederick, MD, passed away December 28, 2012 at Kline Hospice House with his family surrounding him.
Born in Middletown, MD on October 2, 1927, he was the son of the late John Austin and Dorothy Arnold Younkins. He grew up in Middletown and Frederick, graduating from Frederick High School in 1944. He was a dairy farmer for 30 years, grain farmer for 50 years, and sales representative for Pioneer Hybrid International, Inc., for 16 years.
Among his community and professional affiliations Austin was a member of Maryland Corn Growers, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Frederick County Farm Bureau, Holstein/Friesian of America, Maryland and Virginia Milk Association and the Maryland State Guard. As a youth, he was a member of the Luther League.
Austin enjoyed reading, astronomy, science, building model airplanes and baseball. He was a man of deep faith, a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Feagaville and an associate member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, serving in many positions in both church and Sunday school; church council, deacon and elders, financial secretary, superintendent of Sunday school and bible study teacher.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Edna Main, and sister, Grace Elizabeth Armel. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Betty Burrier Tucker; one sister, JoAnne Roosa and husband Bob of Waynesboro, PA; one brother Thomas Younkins and wife Shirley of Mt. Pleasant, MD; children, Wayne Younkins and wife Susan of Hagerstown, Ronald Younkins and wife Ines of Middletown, John Younkins and wife Diane of Knoxville; Joel Younkins and wife Laurie of Frederick, and Jodi Tucker-Herche and husband Daniel of Frederick; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
The family will receive friends at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, MD on Sunday, December 30 from 7:00-9:00PM and Monday, December 31 from 10:00-11:00AM, with a service following at 11:00AM. Officiating Pastors will be Rev. Sandi Evans Rogers and Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey. Interment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or Frederick Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
