Austin Lee Bender

Austin Lee Bender, 79, of Frederick, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, from a sudden illness with his son and daughter by his side. 

He was born on February 28, 1944, in Frederick, to the late Charles Austin Bender and Evelyn Moberly Bender. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Bender.

Austin is survived by his wife, Olivia Santos Bender; his daughter, Lisa Marchesani, and husband, Michael and his grandchildren, Finley and Morgan Marchesani; additionally, his son, Daniel Bender, and wife, Candessa, and his grandchildren, Zach Stewart, Katie Crew and husband, Michael, Garrett Davis, Becca Davis, Travis Bender and Ean Crawford. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Harley, and husband, Walter “Sonny”. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews; and great-grandchildren. 

Austin worked for the City of Frederick for 41 years before he retired. He was a masonry worker by trade, working for the sewer department. He was a hard-working man with a great sense of humor. He made many friends at his places of work, his junk hauling business and his wood delivery service.

His hobbies included watching wrestling, black and white cowboy movies and collecting cookie jars. He loved to work on search a word books, work in his workshop and enjoyed his recent trip to Steamtown National Historic Site to see trains with his son-in-law, Mike. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He passed on from this life knowing that he was loved.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

A celebration of Austin's life journey will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
