Mr. August Ballabina, 93, of New Market died peacefully Monday, March 7, 2016 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Millie Ballabina. They were married nearly 55 years.
Born November 2, 1922 in Rome, he was the son of the late Ettore and Concetta (DiFederico) Ballabina.
August served in the US Army during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre, also including the Battle of Okinawa. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant on July 23, 1955. He attended University of Pittsburgh, and in April of 1961, he and Millie were married. August later retired as a computer operator for the US Army Concepts Analysis Agency.
They lived in the Washington DC and Montgomery County areas before moving to New Market 13 years ago. August loved being outdoors, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed taking long walks.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward A. Ballabina and wife, Susan, of College Station, Texas; two daughters, Terri Vetsch and husband, Werner, of Batavia, IL; and Toni Parrish and husband, Dale, of Monrovia; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by six siblings, Ed, Rose, Elvera, Mary, Alfred, and August, their first born who died in infancy.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, with a celebration of life service to begin at noon.
Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
