Audrey Marie (Burger) Smith, 82, of Hagerstown, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at her home while surrounded by her family.
Born on February 13, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Merle Burger and Devonna (Weddle) McElroy.
Audrey was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville, Maryland.
She had worked at the Hanover Shoe Factory in Middletown, but spent most of her life caring for her family and her home.
Audrey enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, and especially crabbing and fishing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Samuel E. Smith; one daughter, Sharon D. Elliott and husband Riggin of Boonsboro; and two sons, Samuel E. Smith and wife Carolyn and Glenn L. Smith, all of Hagerstown. She is also survived by six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Inez Leftowitz; two brothers, Donald and Floyd Burger; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith.
A funeral ceremony celebrating Audrey's life journey will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Blaine E. Feightner will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at Locust Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the funeral home.
