Artye Barbara Reed Hellner

Mrs. Artye Barbara Reed Hellner, age 87, died on Saturday, March 14, 2009, in the health care center of Buckingham's Choice in Buckeystown, Maryland due to esophageal cancer.

Artye was the daughter of Anna Grebneau and Arthur C. Reed of Los Angeles, California. Artye was the devoted wife of Dr. Maurice H. Hellner and beloved mother of Maurine Rosenberg of New York City, Cheryl Hellner of Germantown, Maryland and Janet Hellner-Burris of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Her son, Charles, preceded her in death in 1974, as did her husband, Maury, in 2005. Artye is survived by grandchildren: Matthew Rosenberg, Cathy Roy, Jon Hall, Kaitlyn and Benjamin Hellner,-Burris and two great grandchildren, Ian and Matthew Roy.

Artye was a committed church leader who served for many years as the director of the National City Christian Church's Community Children's Ministry for urban children in the Shaw neighborhood in Washington, D.C. She was a graduate of U.C.L.A. and an accomplished musician and seamstress, as well as a creator of needlepoint art and an avid animal lover.

Services: The memorial service for Artye Hellner will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April, 3, at Buckingham's Choice in Buckeystown, Maryland.

Memorial donations may be sent to the One Step Program for urban youth at The Christian Church of Wilkinsburg, where her daughter Janet is the pastor.
