Arthur Poffenberger

Arthur Lee "Ottie" Poffenberger, 86, of Hagerstown and formerly of Boonsboro, Maryland passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016, at his home with his family by his side.

Born on August 13, 1930, in Middletown, MD, he was the son of Dorothy Olive Main Poffenberger and the late Nyle Cadwell Poffenberger.

Ottie was proud to have served in the United States Army, and was stationed in France during the Korean War. Following his military service he continued to work as a heavy equipment operator with F.O. Day construction company and was known for his talents in his work. He was a member of the Boonsboro American Legion Post 10, the Hagerstown Amvets Post 10, and the Williamsport Red Men Tribe 84 .

Ottie is survived by his mother, with whom he resided; his two daughters, Barbara Jean Leatherman and husband, Randal, and Lisa Ann McFadden and husband, James; four grandchildren, Krystyn Nicole Bolyard Zacharias (Larry), Jared Michael Leatherman, Jordan Matthew Leatherman (Kirsten) and Bryan Duane Ferraiuolo (Felicia); two great-grandsons, Reilly Leatherman and Grayson Ferraiuolo; his special friend of 35 years, Betty Mae Jordan; and his nieces and nephew and their families.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Marie (Poffenberger) Shank and brother-in-law, Ralph Franklin Shank.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Boonsboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
