Mr. Arthur C. Bruce, 88, of Huntingtown, MD passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sadie Bruce.
Born on October 17, 1924 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Edward and Nellie Bruce.
Mr. Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the LST-127. He was especially proud of his military service and wore his LST-127 cap with pride until his death.
After retiring from Wallace and Gale in Baltimore, MD, Arthur filled his days spending time with his family and many friends, hunting, fishing, crabbing, planting and tending to his garden, and canning his harvest to share. At weddings and family gatherings, you could always spot him on dance floor as he loved to dance. Everyone who knew him, will fondly remember the many crab feasts, camping trips, family reunions on the hill, and endless games of horseshoes.
He is survived by his sons Gary M. Bruce and wife Sue of Mt. Airy, MD, Arthur C. Bruce, Jr and wife Terrie of Mt. Airy, MD, and Steve M. Bruce and wife Myrna of Lusby, MD. In addition, he is survived by 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grand daughter as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Arthur is also survived by his brother Edward Bruce of Dundalk, MD, sister, Eileen Metzger of Glen Burnie, MD, sisters-in-law Teresa Branham and Marge Chmura.
He is preceeded in death by his stepdaughter Florence Lantner, stepson George Thompson, daughter Barbara Bradley, and granddaughter Kimberly Evans.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on April 13th at Pinecliff Park in Frederick, MD in the Browning Building at 1:00pm. Guests may arrive after 12 noon and please come as you are, this in an informal affair at Arthur’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Moving Forward, Inc., PO Box 404, Catharpin, VA 20143.
