Arthur Baker

December 21, 1923 — February 17, 2012

Arthur C. Baker, 88, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed away from this life on Friday morning, February 17, 2012 at the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born on December 21, 1923, in Benevola, Maryland, he was the son of the late Frederick L. and Clemmie E. (Smith) Baker.

Arthur was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Funkstown, Maryland.  He was also a member of the Teamsters Local Union Number 992 in Hagerstown, Maryland

Arthur worked as a truck driver for Hall's Motor Express in Hagerstown for thirty two years, retiring in 1981.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sara Jane (Bond) Baker; a daughter, Patricia A. Hammond of Sharpsburg, Maryland; a son, Frederick L. Baker and his wife, Victoria, also of Sharpsburg; four grandchildren, Sarah C. and her husband, Matthew Hull of Keedysville, Maryland, John Hammond, David and Thomas Baker, all of Sharpsburg; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Caitlin, Mimi, Bradley, and Sadie Hull all of Keedysville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Palmer and two brothers, Robert and Gerald Baker.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The Rev. Michael Louia and Rev. Darrell Layman will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
