Arlene Hutzell

Arlene L. (Smith) Hutzell, 80, of Rohrersville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at her home.

Born on December 7, 1933, in Locust Grove, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Garley and Clara (Stine) Smith. Her husband of 50 years, Robert L. Hutzell, Sr., preceded her in death on April 22, 2002.

She was a seamstress all of her life, having worked at E.J. Fennel, Ross Garments, and London Fog. After retirement, she worked as a lunch assistant at Sharpsburg Elementary School.

Arlene was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville.

She is survived by one daughter, Bridget L. Lowery and husband Kevin of Rohrersville; two sons, Robert L. Hutzell, Jr. and wife Cathy of Boonsboro, Maryland, and Terry L. Hutzell, Sr. and wife Teresa of Rohrersville; her son-in-law Jeff Weaver of Smithsburg, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Terry Hutzell, Jr. and wife Dawn, Timothy Hutzell and wife Kristy, Kristin Hutzell, Kourtney Lowery, Kara Frantz and husband Jason, Tara Powell and husband Zach, Kandace Burke and husband Jimmy, Kevin Lowery, Jr., Kurtis Lowery, and Carolyn Weaver; thirteen great grandchildren, Chad, Chelsey, Keith, Alyson, Jenna, Lucas, Logan, Zoe, Brooke, Brady, JD, Lorelei, and Jakob. She is also survived by one sister, Louise Poffenberger and husband Charles of Stephens City, Virginia; and one brother, Donald Smith and wife Beverly of Penn National, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammie L. Weaver; grandson, Kenneth H. Lowery; great grandson, Blake Frantz; one brother, Carroll Smith; and one sister Esther Jones.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery at Locust Grove in Rohrersville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the funeral home.
