Arbutus "Boots" V. Eccard, 79, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed away on Monday morning, June 23, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with heart disease and cancer.
Born on March 10, 1935, in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Grover Churchey and Annabelle (McGowan) Forsythe.
Boots attended Boonsboro High School and later earned her GED.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Bowley's Quarters, Maryland.
She was a homemaker, babysitter, and avid bowler until she became a paraplegic in 1987. Boots also enjoyed card parties, dancing, and was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of sixty-two years, Claude W. Eccard, whom she married on December 24, 1951; her three daughters, Conda L. Slick and her husband Michael, of Boonsboro, Maryland, Brenda L. Dellinger and her husband, Robert, of Boonsboro, and Melinda L. Ruthenberg and her husband, David, of Bel Air, Maryland and Marathon, Florida; a sister, Vonda L. (Churchey) Jamison, and her husband, Dallas, of Sharpsburg, Maryland. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Amy Wescott, Matthew Barnes, and Adam Dellinger; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Peyton, Aubrey, and Isaac Wescott.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606, Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the funeral home. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
