Anthony David Chase "Tony" passed away at his home in Frederick, MD on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the age of 64.
Born on August 24, 1952 in Newmarket, England, he was the son of Eva and William Chase. He was preceded in death by his mother Eva-Maria (Ludwig) Chase and his faithful companion, Scooter. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Helen (Parker) Chase of Frederick, MD; stepdaughter, Kelly (Pohlenz) Green and her husband, Greg Green of Frederick; stepson, Scott Pohlenz and his wife Laura (Snodgras) Pohlenz of Bel Air, MD; his granddaughters, Lily and Mary Pohlenz of Bel Air; his father William L. Chase, sister Stephany Chase and brother William B. Chase of Cascade; brother, Christopher Chase and his wife Holly (Hayes) Chase of Mont Alto, PA; two nephews, Taylor Chase Suchanek and his wife Ashley, and Ryan Chase Zerphy of Waynesboro, PA; three nieces, Samantha Chase-Zerphy of Waynesboro, and Becky and Kyleen Chase of Mont Alto, PA.
Tony graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1970 and attended Hagerstown Junior College. He retired after 40 years with the Department of Army at Ft. Detrick. He was an excellent athlete during his younger years and continued to play softball and volleyball until time and injuries curtailed these activities and sidelined him to armchair officiating.
He and Helen loved golf and played frequently. He started playing when he was 12 years old and continued until shortly before his passing. It was often said that Tony never met a stranger. He was always comfortable around everyone and made others feel comfortable too. He had several wonderful, lifetime friends for which he was deeply grateful and he always said that he was truly blessed.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Burial will be at a later date and for family only.
