Annette Brady

Mrs. Annette Brady, nee Prencipe, passed away at home on July 28, 2014, with her loving husband of 65 years, William O. Brady, by her side.

Born July 22, 1925 in Washington, D.C. to the late Leonard and Marietta Prencipe, Annette was also predeceased by her sisters, Louise (Dominic) Boccabella, Natalie (Harry) Watson, Jennie (Ralph) Jenkins, and brothers, Nick (Janet) and Joseph (Gloria) Prencipe. She is survived by sister, Evelyn, and brother-in-law, Jonas Umholtz of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Annette attended Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. and graduated in 1943. She married William O. Brady on January 2, 1949, at St. Francix Xavier Church in Washington, D.C. Annette was the dedicated and loving mother to four children, Thomas C. (Annette) Brady, Kathleen (Wayne) Smith, James L. (Martha) Brady, and Anita (Ronald) Bartlinski. She was the proud, loving and devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren, Brady (Wendy) Smith, Karla (David) Heinen, Sean (Julia) Bartlinski, Nicholas Bartlinski, Nicola (Kevin) Magley, William O."Billy" Brady II, Kevin Brady, and James Brady; and two-great-grandchildren, Justine and Bryce Heinen.

Annette had a career with the U.S. Government where she worked for the U.S. Department of Education prior to starting her family, the U.S. Government Printing Office, and the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., from 1966 until her retirement in 1980.

She was a devout Catholic and while raising their family in Greenbelt, MD, where they lived from 1958 to 1975, she was active in the Ladies Sodality of the St. Hugh's Catholic Church and with St. Hugh's School, where she served as a substitute teacher and helped with various fundraisers. In 1975, Annette and Bill moved to Chevy Chase, D.C. and in 1986, they moved to Manteo, NC. They moved to Lake Heritage, Gettysburg, PA in 1989, to be closer to their family and enjoyed their new friends and activities there. Annette was active with the Adams County Newcomer's Club, and Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) at St. Francis Xavier Church in Gettysburg. Annette and Bill also enjoyed the fellowship and fun at the Lake Heritage Fishing Club.

After retirement, Annette and Bill enjoyed traveling within and outside of the United States, especially to the countries of their ancestors - Italy and Ireland. They also enjoyed spending time with and spoiling their grandchildren. Annette made friends wherever she went and maintained friendships from her childhood, from her early married life in West Hyattsville and Greenbelt, from her years working for the National Park Service to Gettysburg, PA, and then in Frederick, Maryland. Annette and Bill moved to Country Meadows Retirement Community in Frederick, Maryland in June 2013.

Annette had a passion for life - Redskins football, travel, and especially her family. She was also a patriot and enjoyed parades, patriotic music and also served as an election judge for many years while living in Gettysburg. Annette lived life to the fullest and in her younger years, she loved to dance, entertain, and was a wonderful cook.

The family wishes to thank all of the special residents and amazing staff at Country Meadows for their thoughtfulness and love over the past year and to the caregivers of Right At Home and Hospice of Frederick County for their support and care of Annette.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. MD, with Father Stephen Gosnell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
