Mrs. Anna Mae Wigington, 83, of Knoxville, MD was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital with her beloved daughter by her side.
Born on February 11, 1930 in Stanley, VA, Anna was the daughter of the late Walter and Vinda Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Charles Curtis Wigington; her brother Elmer Lucas; and her sisters: Ollie Shugars, Lurene Saunders, Beulah Derflinger, Geneva Crowl, Pearl Wenner, and Jean Baker; and sisters- in-law, Helen Jones and Thelma Sigafoose.
Anna is survived by her daughter Diane Dawson and son-in-law Denny, of Knoxville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lisa Shafer and husband, Bryan of Walkersville, and Kristi Keyser of Brunswick; six great-grandchildren: Emma Shafer, Connor Shafer, Allie Shafer, Olivia Shafer, Jacob Keyser, and Chloe Keyser. She is also survived by her brother Everett Lucas of Bunker Hill, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
Anna attended Brunswick High School. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 35 years and served on the Care Committee. She was also an avid Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins fan. Anna also enjoyed spending countless evenings with her sisters and friends, taking bus trips to many areas of the country, and shopping with her daughter. “Grandmom” also proudly attended birthday parties, preschool graduations, concerts, sporting events and church programs for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, and treasured time spent with her family.
Friends and family will be received at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick on Sunday, January 12 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral services will be held at Faith Baptist Church on Monday, January 13 at 11am with Reverend Ed Jordan officiating. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in Lovettsville, VA.
