Obituary

Anna Regina Thomas, born August 29, 1922, departed this life March 15, 2018 at the wonderful age of 95.  Regina, as she was known, was born in Baltimore, MD, and was the oldest of two daughters born to Charles William and Mary Hall Dorsey.

Regina grew up and was educated in Frederick County Maryland.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and aunt.

She was a quiet woman but meant what she said.  She lived alone for many years and was quite independent.  For many of her senior years she could be found cutting the grass, hanging curtains, or climbing on a ladder to get dead branches. She loved to talk of the days when she was a young woman working hard from sun up to sundown side by side with her husband on the farm.  She could fix a car as good as any mechanic.  Her nephews often reminisced with her about her working on her old “Henry J”.

She enjoyed reading her Bible, solving word puzzles, sitting in the sun, eating “something good”, and laughing.  She had a wonderful sense of humor.  Her grand and great-grand nieces and nephews enjoyed visiting with her and coaxing her to say “ something unexpected ”!

For many years she was an active volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in West Virginia.  For these services, she received a Certificate of Appreciation.  Regina also received a Certificate of Recognition from the “ Living Treasure of Frederick County African American Resources Cultural and Heritage Society. She attended Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Adamstown, MD for many years and she loved every member.  She would often say of Pastor Tonia Brown, “ I love to hear her pray ”.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard A. Thomas, both parents, her sister Omie E. Smith, daughter Karen Simms, and nephew Stephen Smith.

Regina leaves to mourn and cherish her life:  Nephews –Wayne (Robin), Michael (Charlotte), and James (Patricia); Nieces – Denise (Steve-deceased) and Patsy Thomas; many other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.  She also leaves to mourn her life, a dear and devoted neighbor and friend Mrs. Mary C. Lee..

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, March 28, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tonia Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Frederick.
