Anna Sullivan

Anna Louise (Thompson) Sullivan, 98, formerly of Knoxville, Maryland, passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Homewood Retirement Center.

Born on April 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John William and Martha Elizabeth (Holder) Thompson. Her husband, James F. Sullivan, preceded her in death in 1996.

Mrs. Sullivan was a lifetime member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Kitchen Committee.

She is survived by her son, Galen F. Sullivan and his wife, Carol of Boonsboro; her daughter, Sue Ann and her husband, William Utterback of Rohrersville; her four grandchildren; Bradley Utterback and his wife Emily of Jefferson, Shane Utterback of Hagerstown, Paula and her husband Paul Rhoderick of Beaver Creek, and Charlene and her husband Adam McMillen of Pleasantville; and her six great-granchildren, Matthew and Colton Rhoderick, Ian and Colin McMillen, and Noah and Lilah Utterback. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Nancy Sullivan; her two sisters, Mary Harris and Idell Holder; and her six brothers, Claggett, Orville, Claude, Tilghman, Abner, and Charles Thompson.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road in Brownsville. Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Brownsville Cemetery.

Friends may visit beginning at 12 noon on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
