Mrs. Anna Mary Hoffman Shankle, 85 of Frederick passed away on Sunday September 7, 2014 at the Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Harold R. Shankle.
Born December 4, 1928 she was the daughter of the late George William Hoffman, Sr. and Ethel Thomas Hoffman.
Anna Mary was a lifetime member of the Doub’s United Methodist Church. She retired from Frederick County Government as a cook in the school system and also Citizens Nursing Home. She was an avid Orioles fan and loved cooking for others.
She is survived by her three children, Harold R. “Dick” Shankle, Jr. of Frederick, Wayne T. Shankle and wife Nancy of Jefferson and Nancy W. Hipkins and husband Ronald of Thurmont, seven grandchildren, Jason R. Hipkins and wife Janee, Addie R. Besemer and husband Derek, Sarah B. Shankle, Julie R. Hipkins, Nathan T. Shankle, Rachael A. Shankle Blair and husband Josh and Elizabeth A. Zimmerman and husband Jason, seven great grandchildren, Justin, Blake and Logan Hipkins, Rhyan and Leah Besemer , Chance and Landon Zimmerman, her sister, Helen Plunkard, former daughter-in-law, Barbara L. Crutchley and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Harold and her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers, George Hoffman, Marion Hoffman and John Hoffman, three sisters, Harriet Gibbons, Ruby Brashears and Jane Phillips.
A celebration of Anna Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13th at 11:00AM at the Jefferson Ruritan Center, 4603 B. Lander Road, Jefferson with Chad Weddle officiating.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Kline Hospice House for their kindness and care given to Anna Mary. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
