Mrs. Anna C. “Ann” Pierce, 91, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Heartfields in Frederick. She was the wife of the late Russell A. Pierce.
Born August 31, 1922 in Fenton, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Will and Dorothy Coleman.
Ann began her Civil Service career in 1942. She enlisted in the Navy WAVES in 1944 achieving the rating of Chief Petty Officer. In 1953, when her enlistment expired, she continued civilian employment with the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps, achieving the rating of Management Analyst. While serving with the Navy, she received several outstanding performance awards and commendations. She retired from Government Service in 1981 with 39 years of combined military and civilian service. She was a member of YMCA’s in Frederick and Bethesda, Walkersville UM Church, Walkersville Senior Citizens, Charter member, Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc., and several Veterans organizations, including DAV and Amvets. She was an avid reader, passion for music, played the piano, loved to sing, enjoyed swimming and exercise programs and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her granddaughter Sarah K Smith, her son-in-law Craig A. Smith all of Walkersville and a special niece Janice Thomas of Saginaw, MI and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon P. Smith.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am Rev. Richard Baker will officiate.
Interment private.
