Anita Roembke

June 29, 1919 — February 15, 2016

Mrs. Anita Roembke, 96, of Frederick, Maryland died on the 15th of February, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of James Edward Roembke, Sr. Born in Covington, Indiana on June 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James Freeman and Nellie Martin Bilsland. Anita was the second of four daughters, Eileen, Delores and Kathleen who were her much loved sisters.

After graduating from Hillsboro High School, Anita trained to be a cosmetologist and worked as one until she married James, her 7th-grade sweetheart. At the time of their marriage, James was in active duty as an officer in the United States Navy serving on the USS Nevada as the Chief Engineer. Anita met him at port in Boston, Massachusetts to be married on October 15, 1943. Anita became the mother of four children, Lianne Roembke, Joyce Bademan, Barbara Koch and James Roembke, Jr. and became an active homemaker, mother and wife.

In their early career Anita and James moved frequently to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Nevada, Michigan and then spent 15 years in McLean, Virginia. During these years she was very involved at McLean Bible Church teaching Sunday School, hosting children’s Bible Clubs and enjoyed wonderful relationships with her friends from there.

After retirement she and her husband moved to Kansas City, Missouri and then to back to their home in Covington, Indiana . As a result of James’ illness, Anita made a decision to move to Maryland to live with her son and daughter-in-law, James, Jr. and Holly Roembke. Anita has been residing in Frederick since 1996, the longest single place of residence in her life. She loved the area and made wonderful friends through her church home at First Baptist of Frederick. She volunteered there for several years and made dear friends.

Her husband, James, died in 1998. Anita was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Lianne Roembke. She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Bademan and husband Richard, Barbara Koch and husband Conrad and her son James and wife Holly. She has seven grandchildren, Bryan Bademan and wife Tess, Sarah Wolfe and husband Chris, Rachel Notte and husband Chris, Rebekah McPeak and husband Andy, James, III and wife Majida, Eric Roembke, Benjamin Roembke and wife Leslie. She has 11 great grandchildren, Elsa and Mary Bademan, Graham, Asher, Samuel, Joseph and Nathan Wolfe, Ella and Connor Notte, Regan Roembke and Madelyn McPeak. She has one sister who survives her, Kathleen Reef of Indianapolis.

She loved serving and would do about any manual job given to her. She made her last family meal one day before she was hospitalized two weeks ago. She loved to knit and sew and enjoyed staying productive and busy. Driving her friends to church and lunch was a highlight. She volunteered at the Frederick Memorial Hospital where she served happily. She loved her Lord and was committed to honoring him in her life and service…all would agree she accomplished this.

The funeral service will be at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at 10:00 A.M. before the service. She will be laid to rest in her home town of Covington, Indiana with her husband James and daughter Lianne at a future date. Memorial Gifts can be made to Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), or Gideons International. Checks may be sent to her son James at 116 Record Street, Frederick, MD 21701 where they will be forwarded to the designated organizations.
