Angela Calamari

March 24, 1950 — June 19, 2019

Angela Calamari, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life of Wednesday June 19, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Angela is survived by her loving brother, Angelo Masino, her adoring children, Chris Calamari and Laura Calamari, her son-in-law, Brian Blake, and the light of her eye, her granddaughter, Isabella Calamari. She was predeceased by her brother, Pat Masino and her parents, Angelo and Francis Masino.

Angela Calamari was born March 24, 1950, in Brooklyn New York to Angelo and Francis Masino. She graduated Saint Helena High School in the Bronx and went on to graduate from Queens College and eventually Loyola College with a master’s degree in sociology and education. She was a kind and caring person filled with a driving desire for helping others. After college she established herself as a child and family social worker protecting vulnerable children and their families from the tough streets of New York City. Being frustrated with all the red tape involved with state agencies to get what actually needed to be done she turned her efforts to teaching, where she made an impact on thousands of lives. Most of her career was spent teaching early elementary at the Resurrection- St. Paul School where she built the kindergarten program and touched so many through her incredible heart. Her true passion for teaching was recognized throughout her career with numerous awards, including the National Distinguished Teacher of the Year in 1991. When asked the key to her success, she responded ‘If we teach with love our students will respond with love’. Her passion for education and social service continued to merge as she went on to write the Success for All curriculum in science at JHU and was the former director of the GED program at St. Ambrose Outreach Center in Baltimore. She went on to become a principal at St. Katherines School and Seton Keough High School where she revolutionized the curriculum by merging her love of teaching with cutting edge technology.

Angela always put others first with conviction and sacrifice and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Her time spent in this world is a testimony that if you live your life with love and compassion there is no such thing as death.
