In Loving Memory of Andy Mackintosh

1954 – 2025

Andrew (Andy) Mackintosh, age 71, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, surrounded by his family at his beloved Fowl’s Play farm — a place that brought him peace, purpose, and pride.

Andy was born to Earl and Eleanor Mackintosh in 1954 and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He attended Bullis High School, where he played basketball and football and formed the foundation of many lifelong friendships and values. He went on to study at Florida Southern College, excelling in soccer and joining the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, forging connections and memories that would stay with him always. After college, Andy returned to Maryland and settled in Adamstown following his marriage to the love of his life, Nancie Groff, in 1977.

Andy’s greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted husband to Nancie, a proud father to Drew, Ashleigh, and Lacey, and a proud grandfather to six grandchildren. He rarely missed a game, school event, or family milestone. Whether coaching on the sidelines or cheering in the stands, he was his children’s biggest fan. He was also a lifelong avid Redskins fan and a loyal supporter of local sports teams. Andy also loved traveling and cruising with Nancie worldwide, including the Caribbean, Scandinavia, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Andy will be remembered for his competitiveness, devilish humor, and unwavering generosity. He possessed a unique sense of humor, sometimes leaving people wondering whether he was joking or serious. He was always trying to make someone laugh and was known for taking a joke a little too far on a few occasions. He took pride in caring for others, whether it be at the farm, the office, or a Redskins game. He always wanted to make sure that everyone had what they needed and was having a good time, which often involved playing music (his favorite, the Rolling Stones) way too loud or having fun with his many “toys” on the farm, like his pinball machines, four wheelers, dune buggy, hovercraft, or riding through his fields naming cows in the Polaris.

Professionally, Andy made his mark in real estate and land development as the Broker and Co-Owner of Mackintosh Realtors, working alongside his brothers, Buzz and Jim. Andy was respected for his integrity and keen vision as a member of the Frederick County Builders Association and Association of Realtors, and he led the development of the Canal Run community in Point of Rocks and properties in Middletown, Kingsbrook, and Spring Ridge. For over 40 years, Andy helped shape our region and built more than just properties — he built relationships and helped make our communities with care and commitment.

Andy is survived by his loving wife, Nancie, son Drew and Manda Mackintosh of Adamstown, MD, daughter Ashleigh and John Carr of Arlington, VA, and daughter Lacey and Cosette Mackintosh of Frederick, MD. Andy cherished his time as Gramps to Cortland, Annabelle, Naomi Mackintosh (Drew), James, Catherine, and Anderson Carr (Ashleigh). Also left to carry on Andy’s memory are his four siblings from Adamstown, Maryland - Rocky, Carolyn, Stephen ‘Buzz,’ Jim, and their spouses and families, and was recently predeceased by his brother Tom. Nancie’s siblings, Kathy and Don Aitcheson, and Steve and Sharon Groff, will also carry on his memories.

A private service will be held at the family’s request. In honor of Andy’s legacy, the family encourages time spent with loved ones, acts of kindness, and cheering for your favorite team—just as Andy would have wanted.

His impact will be felt for generations, and his memory will forever be carried in the hearts of those he loved.
