Andrew Hocko Jr., formerly of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on October 28, 2021 at Lorien Assisted Living in Mt. Airy. He was 97 years old and was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Doris Hocko.
Andy served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, primarily as an assistant engineer and gunner in a B-24 bomber squadron assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After the war, Andy moved to Washington DC to work with the Federal government completing 34 years of service before his retirement in April 1978.
Andy loved to contribute his time and talents to a variety of service organizations including the American Legion, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Wheaton MD for more than 60 years. He loved to travel, spend time with family and friends, and was an avid photographer.
He is survived by his three children: Michael Hocko of Cocoa Beach, FL; Christa Pusateri and her husband Ken Pusateri of Mt. Airy; and Janet Hocko and her husband Lawrence Butler of Yorba Linda, CA., as well as five grandchildren: Brett Pusateri (wife Ana Aguado), Keith Pusateri (wife Kelcey Pusateri), Russell Pusateri (wife Samantha Pusateri), Daniel Butler and Corinne Butler.
A Mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael Road, Mount Airy, MD. 21771 at 10:00 am on November 3, 2021. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wheaton, MD. at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, Andy requested that any donations in his memory be given to the American Legion, Gold Star Post 190, located in Mt. Airy MD, for assisting aging veterans.
