Andrew James Bokelman of Ijamsville, Maryland passed away unexpectedly and peacefully with his wife, Julie, by his side on January 19th 2017. He was 46 years old. Andrew (Andy) was born on April 27th, 1970 in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Colorado Springs. In his youth he was involved in various sports, including baseball and golf, at which he excelled. He shared these passions with his father who also excelled at these endeavors. In his formative years, he was one who seemed wise before his years and displayed incredible confidence. Along with his early maturity, his humor, kindness and friendliness became attributes that touched many that came to know him. After graduating from Palmer High School in 1988, he attended the University of Arizona in Tucson where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1993. After graduation, he located back to Colorado where he was introduced to his sweetheart and future wife Julie. They were married in 1998.
Andy began his career working for Lockheed Martin (LM) as an engineer on the Global Positioning System (GPS) program, and progressively accepted more challenging leadership assignments in Program Management and Business Development. Andy served as the LM Capture Manager for the U.S. Census 2010 Decennial Response Integration System (DRIS) program. In the subsequent nine years, Andy worked in Business Development and Capture Management Leadership roles for a variety of other Information Technology companies. At the time of his death, Andy was Director of Consulting Services, Capture Management at CGI.
Both in the business and in the sports worlds Andy was known as a fierce competitor, but he was also a soft-hearted family man. He was a lover of animals, including the family pets, but particularly so when they came in the form of a football team, the Miami Dolphins. He also rooted for his alma mater, the University of Arizona, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Boston Red Sox. His hobbies included golf and coaching his son’s flag football team. Andy was a wonderful role model and taught his young players good sportsmanship.
Above all else, Andy loved and was dedicated to his wife, Julie Weis, and their two sons. He will be greatly missed. Andy is survived by his wife Julie Weis and sons Zachary and Alexander, and also by his parents Jacque and Bill Bokelman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and sister Stacey LeBeau of Phoenix, Arizona.
Services will be held at Stauffer’s Funeral Home in Frederick, Maryland on January 28th at 11 am. Guests are invited to arrive an hour early to express condolences. A reception will be held after the service at Julie and Andy’s home for refreshments and to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to Camp Greentop. This is a camp that Andy’s son, Zack, has attended and enjoyed for several summers. Donations may be sent to The League for People with Disabilities, 1111 E. Cold Spring Lane Baltimore, Maryland 21239 in Honor of Andy Bokelman.
