Andra Mae McDonald Tongier was a loving person that enjoyed giving to others. Born 5 July 1959 in Sumpter, SC, she exuded southern grace and charm. She was a proud high school graduate of Summerville High School and went on to get her Bachelors Degree from Charleston Bible College. She proceeded with her education at Georgia Tech where she received her Masters in Computer Science.
Her dream was to become a math teacher, but realized a better career would be with IBM. She got her dream job with IBM and that brought her to Manassas, VA. It wasn't until Loral Federal purchased IBM Federal that she was forced to Gaithersburg, MD to stay employed. But, she bought a townhouse in Frederick. The company kept changing names and work locations, but she remained steadfast in her support of company and customer.
Church and singing have always been a big part of her life. She remained friends with the church group from Manassas that would travel to other churches to sing songs of praise and prayer. Oh how she loved the praise team and choir at Faith Baptist Church under Duane Musgrove! Even toward the end when she could no longer stand, she would sit and sing.
Andra met Tim at a singles retreat with Church of the Redeemer. After some childish games, they finally developed a relationship and have been inseparable since. Andra loved to shop....boy how she loved to go shopping especially with Tim's sister or the other members of the Fab 4. No, not the Beatles, but her Longaberger buddies. Andra loved the vacations to Rehoboth Beach and back to South Carolina to see her parents. Every five years, Tim and Andra would redo their honeymoon to Charleston and then onward to Amelia Island, FL.
She was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer on September 11, 2015. Since then, she fought, with dignity, courage, strength and grace. God's mercy took her downhill fast starting just aft of Christmas 2019 until she passed away peacefully at home this past Monday evening with Tim Holding her hand and telling her how loved she was. Tim's sister Bonnie and Pastor Duane were also there with friends from church and Rikki Myers, her hospice nurse.
